Saturday 5th saw our Elites 10s Enfield boys travel across to Stevenage to play in the first of 3 fixtures against Stevenage Academy. We were playing at their Shephallbury facilities and this in itself was going to provide a new challenge, as we would be playing in the cages. When we arrived we were informed we would be playing 2 x 6 aside matches simultaneously, however we had only brought an 11 man squad. However these 11 boys went on to become heroes following a fantastic display from start to finish.
Elites Director Nick said ‘Matches of this calibre are always tough and a great test for our Elite players. However throw in the fact that we are now a player down, this will be a huge test. Lets see who stands up to this test’.
As expected there was an initial settling in period for the player’s. It begun like a frantic 3rd round FA Cup match, tackles flying in, the ball bouncing around but no player getting there footballing on the ball. Once this period passed the match settled more in to a rhythm and you could now begin to see the qualities of both sets of players. Both teams were now moving the ball extremely well and carving out some great opportunities.
Elites player Sachin had begun really brightly on pitch 1 and was dictating the pace of the Elites attacks. On pitch 2 Harley and James D were initiating some great attacking play from the Elites boys. Trizano was his normal dynamic self, covering every blade of grass on the pitch. Debutant Theo was showing what a great acquisition he will prove to be in an Elites shirt. Special praise, must go to keeper Sam, who had his best match so far for NCF Elites, pulling off numerous saves.
Man of the match on pitch 1 as voted by the players was Sam and on pitch 2 was the mercurial Harley.
Elites coach Terry said ‘Overall a very good performance from the boys from start to finish. These matches show us who can step up to this level and play at this intensity. We showed we could be a good match for Stevenage’.
